Style Staples

With autumn fast approaching, I’ve taken advantage of the opportunity to do a big wardrobe clear out and assess my staples ahead of the new season. I’ve set myself a little challenge to create a capsule collection of key pieces that I can mix and match and style in numerous ways. It’s all about quality over quantity and hopefully it’ll help cut down on the clutter. If you saw the amount of stuff  I discarded over the past few weeks…..and yet most days I opened up my overflowing wardrobe and declared I had ‘nothing to wear’.
That all ends this Autumn Winter…I hope!
My list of key pieces includes the following:
Clothes:
  • Black Blazer
  • Dark Denim Skinny Jeans and Black Skinny Jeans
  • Knitwear in neutral tones – black, cream, blush, beige
  • White shirt
  • Denim shirt
  • Cami tops in neutral tones – black, white, cream, blush
  • Leather biker jacket
  • Warm coat – puffa style
  • Dressier coat in black or tan
  • Faux fur gilet or jacket
  • Long sleeved dress
  • Leather skirt
  • Leather (or faux) Leggings
Shoes:
  • Flat boots
  • Heeled boots
  • Court shoes
  • Fancy flat shoes
  • Runners

I have some of the above pieces already from previous seasons but having a list together in one place definitely helps focus the mind. I’ll be filling in the gaps over the coming weeks and will share as I go, showing how I plan to style them up and create multiple different looks. I’m kick-starting the challenge with the black blazer! I posted the inspiration shots above on Instagram over the weekend and lots of followers responded with some gems they had spotted in the shops. I’ve narrowed my list down to these few below – I think it’s clear that military buttons are definitely calling my name!

I hope you enjoyed this post! You can keep up with my challenge by following my hashtag on instagram (#stylebylaurastaples) and as always, questions and feedback are most welcome!
Enjoy the rest of your week,
Laura
